This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of tourism or travel skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to coordinate travel or tourism operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others and make a range of business decisions.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in many travel and tourism industry sectors as a departmental or small business manager. The diversity of employers includes travel agencies, tour wholesalers, tour operators, inbound tour operators, tourist attractions, visitor information centres and other tourism businesses.
Inbound groups manager, inbound sales manager, incentives manager, tour operations manager, marketing manager, product development manager, reservations manager, travel agency manager, sales manager, visitor information centre manager.
Although there are no formal pre-requisites for entry to this qualification, students must have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course. Students are also required to have good knowledge of computers i.e. used a computer with a Windows environment.

Students must complete a total of 23 units (including 12 core units and 11 elective units) for the award of this qualification.
Please note: On completion of all core units, students can to continue with one specialisation of their choice. Should they wish to complete both specialisations, they will have to allow for extra 6 months of study.

Please Note: APEI offers two specialisations for this qualification. Only one specialisation can be completed within the 52 weeks duration. Should any student wish to complete both specialisations, they will require extra 6 months studies to complete the 11 units required for the second specialisation.
A range of assessment and evidence gathering methods and techniques are used including 2 – 4 or more methods for each unit of competency. For this course, methods include:

- Practical demonstrations
- Case studies
- Projects, assignments and research tasks
- Roleplays, simulations and presentations
Pathways from the qualification:
Successful completion of this qualification will allow entry into an Advanced Diploma of Tourism and Travel Management or a Diploma in a related field such as Hospitality and Events. A pathway into the higher education is also possible.
